Say you hired a college kid or someone who played the violin for a hobby. How much would you set the price at to pay them? What would seem fair? My wedding is this coming September, and I have had alot of responses to people wanting to play, but I am not sure what I should give them. Thanks!

They would only be playing for an hour or so. I have a DJ already, but wanted a violinist to play for the Cocktail hour.
Thanks!

For a college student or amateur violinst I would say around $60-$70 for the hour would be a good, fair price.

If it were a student, I would say about $50. Since they are taking time out of their own lives to help you out, and probably traveling to do so, a thank you gift might also be a good idea such as a cool necklace or gift certificate. Good luck and congratulations!

This would range anywhere between 50-100 for a college student, and maybe up to 200 (or more) for a professional. I would lay an offer out on the table for them, or ask them flat out what their rate would be. If it is too high, you may be able to bring them down since you will already have some prices in your head….
When I was in college, I would have played for about 75-100, but it all depends on the experience and how good they sound……

Around here, an accomplished college student in the music program is $150-200. A professional in these parts runs $400-500. This is for the ceremony only, mind you.
I hope it is cheaper where you are!

I had a harpist at my wedding and cocktail hour before the recpetion and it cost me $400. For a student in North Jersey, I would say between $150. - $200. I would also ask the reponders to give you their price, many of them may have an amount in mind already, and have probably played at other weddings.

$ 100. That person has to dress up, and really dedicate a lot of time to do it.
