Lala asked:
I’m planning to get married in a church, then book a separate venue for the reception. Where does the cocktail hour usually take place? Is it usually in the same room as the reception is held? Or is it held in a smaller nearby room? What if we decide to have our reception in a tent? Then where will it be held. Thanks- I am new to all of this

Generally the cocktail hour is held in a separate area then your reception- usually in a pre function space or in a different room at a hall. Only down part is the bride and groom generally are not at their own cocktail hour as they are busy with pictures. This is so there is a grand entrance to your reception.
I don’t know about the tent-
Congratulations to you as well!!!

any of the suggestions you listed can work.. look at venues and then decide for yourself.. my cousin had her cocktail hour in the reception room and they put out a buffet on the dance floor.. if you do the tent then you can have an area set up for the reception under the tent or possibly in a nearby building..

Where I’m from, the cocktail hour is in the same place as the dinner and reception. If you have cocktails at 5 p.m., with dinner at 6 p.m., the bridal party arrives shortly before 6 p.m.
I suppose you would do the same in a tent.
