I have a wonderful egg nog recipe from my Fannie Farmer Cookbook, but the recipe makes no mention of aging the drink for a period after preparing the mixture. Has anyone heard of aging it to mellow the flavors? My recipe uses whiskey and rum by the cup (it is a recipe for a large amount), and it seems to me that the drink ought to be allowed to be refrigerated and aged. My girlfriend says that her family always aged the Christmas egg nog for an entire month. That sounds a little lengthy to me, but I find it strange that Fannie Farmer, of all cookbooks, makes no mention of aging. If you happen to know about this, please tell me your thoughts. I want to make a pre-holiday-season batch to perfect the recipe. (And because I like the stuff — LOL~!) Your thoughts are appreciated. Thank you for providing them.

Personally, I think any kind of alcohol (brandy, rum or whiskey) ruins the flavor of egg nog. That’s why I’m looking for a recipe without any, or for a recipe where you can just omit it and still get the right consistency.

I want to have alcholic nog, but can’t possibly make it from scratch. :) I have the store bought stuff, but I am not sure how much alcohol to add. Understanding tastes differ, what is standard? And is there anything else I should throw in there?

Mommy of three girly’s asked:

I’m 6 weeks pregnant and love egg nog, but is it okay to drink in pregnancy at any stage?
some of you are so immature!!! why do men even answer questions on pregnancy issues. Thanks to every one else who gave a real answer!
I don’t drink ever and never would during pregnancy especially! I think its interesting you all assume I mean the alcoholic type. I am worried about the raw egg factor and that is why I asked this question. I didn’t know if its still made with raw eggs as it use to be.
