mc asked:
My friends and I would like to have egg nog with alcohol for our little Christmas party, but I really don’t want to make it from scratch (college student). Can I just add alcohol to some that I bought at the store, and how much should I add? Also, which would be better: rum, bourbon, or brandy? I’ve seen all of these liquors in recipes online.

I think Rum accompanies it the best. Depends on how big the glasses are you are serving it in. If the glasses are like juice glasses, just a splash with do. If they are full serving like 8oz glasses, a half of a shot to a full shot would be good. Depends on how your guests like it.
Just a little side note about store bought egg nog. I **** really thick and sweet egg nog. So we started doing some taste testing on different kinds. Believe it or not the egg-nog made by Lactaid for lactate intolerate people was really good. Not to thick and not too sweet, actually tasted like homemade egg nog.

Certainly. The type you add is up to you. Rum or brandy is the traditional way.

You can certainly add it to store bought egg nog.
All three spirts can go well in egg nog, or a combination of them. Which one will be best depends on your preference and the egg nog itself.
Sweeter eggnog would probably be best with rum, a more delicate egg nog would be best with brandy, and a flavorful egg nog would be best with bourbon. Experiment with a few small glasses before mixing the whole batch.
