Peri G asked:
I have a 13 year old black lab. Despite being about 10lbs overweight, he seems to be in very good shape. However, he has been drinking about 5 times the amount of water that he usually does in the summer time, and we are worried that this could possibly mean he has something wrong with him.

Check with your vet first but I think your dog might have diabetes. My dog had it but he died because we didn’t realize it soon enough :(. Best of luck, I hope he is just VERY thirsty!

The simple answer is to take him to the vet. It could be a number of things including diabetes and cushings disease.
Regardless of what it could be, take your dog to the vet. to find out what it really is.

you should call your vet and see if there’s something wrong. i know it’s hot.

I would take your dog for a check-up at the vets, dogs can suffer from cystitis as can humans and drinking a lot of water can be a symptom of this. A dog with kidney problems will sometimes drink a lot as will one with diabetes.
A checkup will help determine whether or not your dog merely needs a lot of water or that there isn’t some other underlying medical cause for this.
It is best to get it checked out by a professional and thus you can rest assured that you did your best for the dog !

Well, if the dog is drinking a lot more but not ****** it out, get him to a vet immediately, because that’s a sign of kidney failure. We went through that with a dog and also with a cat. You need to hurry because hours can mean the difference between life and death!!!

Well i don’t mean to freak you out but usually when animals start drinking large amounts of water(more than normal) it could be signs of urinary health issues or even kidney failure.. Just take the dog to a vet and they will do a urinalyses and determine what is going on.
