anna asked:
What is sour mix (for cocktails) made out of? Does it have a flavor (aside from sour?) Can you buy it pre-made, or does anyone have a recipe? If you buy it pre-made, what brands do you like?

Sour mix is a mixer used in many cocktails, notably the Long Island Iced Tea family. It is made from approximately equal parts lemon and/or lime juice and simple syrup and shaken vigorously with ice

If your talking of a whisky (or any other spirit ) sour for instance here is the secret.
Prepare your lemon juice ahead of time.
Basic recipe for 25 oz:
18 oz of fresh lemon juice (or Reallemon concentrated juice)
add 5 oz of water.
Pour 6 oz of this juice in a shaker and add a egg white. Shake well.
Put aside for future use.
For a whisky sour:
In a shaker with ice:
1 1/2 oz of your prepared lemon juice
1 full teaspoon of sugar
1 oz (or more) of whisky
Shake well and strain into a sour glass (or pour the whole thing in an Old fashion glass)
Garnish with a cherry on a cocktail pic.
The egg white in your lemon preparation will provide a foam so important to the look of your cocktail.
